ETHIOPIA



Project: Construct Airport

The $5bn airport is expected to cover an area of 35 square kilometers and will have a capacity to handle 100 million passengers every year. According to Ethiopian Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer who revealed the ambitious plan, Bole Airport is not going to be sufficient considering the ever rising number of passengers but they have a beautiful expansion project. As it stands, Bole International Airport has a capacity to handle 19 million passengers annually. The new airport is also expected to significantly reduce congestion at Bole.



BOTSWANA



Project: Construct Coal Bed Methane Fueled Power Plant

The $4bn coal bed methane fueled power plant in Botswana is set to be operational by 2025. Coal bed methane is a clean energy source capable of earning the country carbon credits and positively improve the country’s energy mix. Sekaname and Tlou Energy won the bid for the project by the Public Procurement Disposal Asset Disposal Board (PPADB). The project will see construction of CBM-fired power plants up to a maximum of 100MW with the staged development starting with up to 10MW of power generation to facilitate the success of the downstream project by requiring relatively minimal upfront capital expenditure, thus reducing risk. 



EGYPT



Project: Construct Private Medical City

The project is owned by Egyptians for Health Care Services Two (EHCS), and it is one of the Badr City’s mega projects, which has been affected positively recently due to the New Administrative Capital’s development. The project is sited on 57 acres of new development across the new capital city of Egypt on Cairo Suez road. Construction of the entire project will be completed in 7 to 10 years’ time in 3 phases upon which there shall be a 350-bed state-of-art general hospital, clinics plaza, a hotel, and 11 specialized medical excellence centers. Furthermore, 10,000 to 13,000 job opportunities shall be created.



ZIMBABWE



Project: Kunzvi Dam Project

Construction of the Kunzvi Dam that is expected to end the water woes will be constructed at the confluence of the Nora and Nyaguwe rivers in Goromonzi district and falls in a different catchment area from Chivero, Manyame, Seke and Harava dams that draw their water from the Manyame River. The project will be constructed by Chinese firm, Sino-Hydro and will be located about 70km north-east of the city under a build, operate and transfer arrangement. Furthermore, the Kunzvi Dam is expected to produce 250,000 cubic meters of water for the city daily. The project will consist of construction of a dam, laying a pipeline and building new waterworks. 


MOROCCO



Project: New Mixed-use Development

Abu-Dhabi based real estate developer IMKAN has opened an ambitious project on the corniche of the coastal city of Rabat in Morocco. Le Carrousel, spans over 100,000sqm along Rabat’s picturesque Atlantic coastline. The mixed-used destination includes an outdoor mall with more than 120 shops and restaurants, over 200 unique residential seaside apartments, a waterfront with 36 promenade shops and restaurants, a five-star hotel, and 12,000sqm of office space. With a project value of $155m, Le Carrousel is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs once it is fully operational.



GHANA



Project: Eastern Corridor Road

The Eastern Corridor road in Ghana project is set to link the capital Accra with the northern hinterland and across the borders to the Sahel region. The project estimated to cost $113.27m covers 60km of roads, two interchanges and related civil works incorporating community support initiatives to help improve livelihoods in the catchment area. Phase 1 of the project covers the construction of roads and community development along; Dufor Adidome- Asikuma Junction (39.2km), Asutuare-Aveyime (23.9km) and the construction of two interchanges at Dufor Adidome and Asikuma Junction.



NAMIBIA



Project: 44-mw Wind Farm

Client: Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET)

The pact was signed by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) and independent power producer (IPP) Diaz Wind Power, which is a unit of United Africa Group (UAG). The move was confirmed by UAG’s chairperson. The proposed wind farm will be installed in the harbour town of Luderitz at a cost estimated at NAD 1.5bn ($107.4m / EUR95.9m). Its construction is in line with domestic utility NamPower’s new corporate strategy and business plan that seeks to make the country energy self-sufficient in the next five years. The plan involves adding 150MW of new NamPower-owned capacity, including renewables,
and procuring 70MW of wind and solar capacity from IPPs by 2023.
