Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Konecranes has received an order for 30 fully electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from a large greenfield container terminal in India. The order will be delivered in early 2027 and is a step toward cleaner and more efficient port operations.
The cranes will run on battery systems that are built into the cranes and get power from the electrical grid. This will get rid of emissions from the tailpipe. Each unit will have Konecranes' E-Hybrid system in a busbar-and-battery setup, which will let them keep working even when the power goes out.
The RTGs are made to use less energy, so each one will only need about 60 kW of peak power, which is a lot less than the 400 kW that traditional electric cranes use.
The project shows that India is becoming more interested in building ports that are beneficial for the environment. It also fits with Konecranes' goal of promoting eco-friendly and electrified technologies in the global logistics and material handling industry.
