Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The 6-million-sq-meter greenfield site for Expo 2030 Riyadh in the northern region of the Saudi capital has experienced an increase in construction activity as the project transitions from preparatory tasks to full-scale development.
The mobilization of international firms Bechtel and Buro Happold, as well as the award of a significant utilities and infrastructure contract to Saudi contractor Nesma & Partners, has begun the implementation of critical infrastructure projects.
The Saudi government has allocated approximately $7.8 billion for the event, which is slated to take place from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, and is themed "Foresight for Tomorrow." More than 40 million visitors from more than 195 countries are anticipated to visit the site.
Pavilion construction is anticipated to commence later this year, with over 1.5 million square meters of land already leveled, which accounts for approximately 25% of the total site. The primary infrastructure program comprises civil works, roads, and approximately 50 kilometers of utility networks to facilitate subsequent construction segments.
The site is currently being developed as a nature-led masterplan and is expected to evolve into a permanent, technology-enabled urban district after the six-month event.
The project is being executed by Expo 2030 Riyadh Company, which is wholly owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
