Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a significant infrastructure contract in Saudi Arabia for the expansion of the Riyadh Metro network.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City awarded the contract, which is valued between $544 million and $1.1 billion, as part of a broader ultra-mega project managed by a consortium led by Webuild. Nesma & Partners Contracting, Alstom, and IDOM, are among the consortium participants.
The design and turnkey construction of an 8.4-km extension of the Red Line, which includes five stations and both elevated and subterranean sections, will be executed by L&T's Heavy Civil Infrastructure division.
One of the world's largest urban rail initiatives, the Riyadh Metro is the foundation of public transportation in the Saudi capital. As part of Saudi Arabia's overarching urban mobility and sustainability objectives, the network will encompass over 170 km and six lines when fully developed, providing service to critical residential, commercial, and government districts throughout the city.
L&T is a prominent engineering and construction corporation in India, with a portfolio that includes metro rail, highways, airports, electricity, and municipal infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia and the broader region. The company has a long-standing presence in the Gulf.
