Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) has signed an agreement with a consortium led by Masdar, along with Al Khadra Partners, Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd (KOMIPO), and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), to build Oman’s first utility-scale solar and battery storage facility.
The Ibri III Solar Independent Power Project will feature a 500-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic plant and a 100-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system. Spanning nearly 10 million square meters, the project will be designed, financed, constructed, and operated by the consortium under a long-term power purchase agreement with PWP.
Representing an investment of about $299 million, Ibri III is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 33,000 homes and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 505,000 tonnes annually. Once operational, it will contribute up to 4 percent of Oman’s overall electricity mix from renewable sources.
The project supports Oman’s Vision 2040, which calls for renewables to account for 30 percent of power generation by 2030, and aligns with the country’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
