Bobcat Files Patent Suits Against Caterpillar

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Bobcat has filed complaints in Texas federal court and before the United States International Trade Commission, claiming that Caterpillar improperly integrated Bobcat's copyrighted technology into a variety of construction equipment.

According to the claims, Caterpillar copied from Bobcat's skid-steer designs, which reflect a larger trend of incorporating competitor-developed features.

Furthermore, according to Reuters, the papers state that Caterpillar's dozers, excavators, and compact machines employ proprietary technology for greater control, maneuverability, and performance.

Bobcat is seeking financial compensation and has petitioned the trade commission to halt imports of the alleged Caterpillar equipment.

Parallel proceedings have been filed in German courts as well as the European Union's Unified Patent Court.

The charges come as Bobcat maintains a strong market presence globally with products like the S450. The S450 is a popular skid-steer model in the Middle East, notably in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where Bobcat has a significant market share in construction, rental, and industrial applications.

Bobcat, owned by South Korea's Doosan, is well-known for its skid steer loaders and mini excavators.
