Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Hyundai has started sending the first fleet of XCIENT Fuel Cell heavy-duty trucks to Latin America. Eight units traveled from the Port of Gunsan in South Korea for Montevideo, Uruguay, to help the Kahirós Project. Beginning in 2026, the vehicles will be deployed in wood logistics and fueled by renewable hydrogen generated from solar energy.
The vehicles are designed to go more than 720 km with full load, allowing for a complete transport cycle without refueling. The global deployment of the XCIENT Fuel Cell platform started in 2020 and has since spread to many locations, including Switzerland the UAE.
Hyundai previously collaborated with BEEAH Group to test the XCIENT Fuel Cell in Sharjah and Dubai, evaluating how hydrogen-powered heavy transport functions in real-world situations.
Hyundai said that the fleet's arrival in Uruguay is the next step in the advancement of hydrogen-based logistics, and it complements developing efforts in the Middle East and other areas. Long-haul operations, according to the business, are a critical market for fuel-cell technology, especially as nations attempt to cut emissions and promote cleaner transportation systems.
