Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Mammoet recently hauled 16 enormous components for the Egyptian Refining Company project in Mostorod, one of the country's largest industrial endeavors.
Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) are being used to convey the cargo, which has a total weight of around 1,700 tonnes. This is the first time this technology has been used for such operations in Egypt.
The transit route is Mammoet's longest SPMT operation, running around 247 kilometers from Suez to Cairo. The trip travels across urban roadways, highland regions, and desert scenery, including parts of Cairo.
In order to accept the enormous loads, extensive preparation work was needed, including tunnel modifications, road strengthening, and the temporary removal of infrastructure like lighting poles and barriers.
One of the components that was carried was a 1,220-ton hydro refining reactor that needed a multi-axle SPMT configuration and was delivered after a few weeks of transportation.
High-capacity cranes are being used to install the equipment at the refinery site, assisting in the construction of facilities intended to produce refined goods including fuel and LPG.
