Brookstone Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, has announced plans to construct 900 megawatt (MW) wind farm near Dakhla. Brookstone founded ‘Soluna’ – the site that will house the proposed wind farm – after acquiring rights to the land from Altus AG. 

The company hopes to raise $100 million USD via initial coin offering to finance the construction of its first 36 MW worth of turbines. Brookstone will use the power it generates to power cryptocurrency mining and data centers.

South Helwan supercritical power plant is a 1.95GW gas and oil-fuelled power plant being constructed in Helwan, a city situated along the Nile River, south of Cairo, Egypt. 

The project is expected to become one of the biggest thermal power plants (TPP) in Egypt upon completion and is anticipated to create approximately 4,000 jobs, including 75% in construction. The plant is expected to come on-line in 2019, following the completion of reliability tests proposed to be carried out by the end of May 2019.

The Nigerien and Nigerian governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct a hydrocarbon pipeline and a petroleum refinery, valued at US$2bn. The pipeline will travel between Niger and Nigeria’s Katsina State, located on the nation’s northern border. Due to the state’s location, the governments can save costs on the construction of the pipeline as it will span across a shorter distance.

The agreed refinery will have a capacity to process up to between 100,000 and 150,000 barrels of Nigerien oil per day. It is anticipated the duration of the projects’ planning and execution will take between three and four years.

Bosco project will span an area of 310 acres and include apartments and villas, a mall, an international school, a theatre and sport complexes. The project’s main highlight will be 10 eco-friendly towers surrounded by trees that would save energy by doing away with the need for air-conditioning.

Located 45km (27.9 miles) east of Cairo, the anticipated new capital city is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the state’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.

The 420MW project is being developed by the Nachtigal Hydro Power Company, a consortium made up of French utility EDF, the State of Cameroon and the International Finance Corporation. Work will begin before the end of the year and is expected to last 57 months. When complete it is expected to boost the West African country’s generating capacity by 30%.

Besix will design and build a 2km long, 14m high dam in roller-compacted concrete, as well as digging a 3km supply canal and carrying out the installation of the electrical generating equipment, consisting of seven 60MW turbines) and water intake facilities.

Under the deal signed with Tanzania National Roads Agency, GS Engineering & Construction Corp. will build New Selander Bridge that connects Msasani and Central Business District in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest and busiest city. The project is aimed at resolving heavy traffic in the nearby Coco Beach and Aga Khan Hospital area. 

GS Engineering & Construction Corp. will break ground for the project this year with an aim to complete construction by 2021. Of total 6.23 kilometer-long road and bridge, the newly-built bridge will be 1.03 kilometers long with main bridge built with the length of 670 meters with a maximum 125- meter-span extradosed bridge.
